As I build the sculpture I'm also giving it an overall design. Here I'm trying different ways the body is connecting to the plinth. Notice I'm using the stiff green clay to give this large sculpture some strength over the newspaper. This clay needs to be heated in the microwave to be pliable enough for adding large amounts of clay. I am usually very careful but today I burned my finger and believe me it hurt. The scraper came in handy for adding the clay and shaping the edges. Below you see the result of my efforts.
